New Oldies – I’ve Got It Bad by The War Lords

The War Lords were from somewhere around Chicago, probably south, like in the Champaign-Urbana area. This record came out in 1966 on Thor 810T-0759. This song was written by T Jacobs and J Popelka. The Flip side is a song called “Real Fine Lady” that is also very good (and available on compilation CD’s). Both promo (white) and stock (red) copies were issued. Less than ten of these are known to still exist. If you find one, it’s worth well over a thousand dollars.

Now you know everything I know about these guys! If you have any more information about them, I’d love to hear it. In the meantime, why don’t you hear something from them? Here’s I’ve Got It Bad by The War Lords:

Hope you’re enjoying the variety on MusicMaster Oldies! Stay tuned. There’s even more cool stuff coming in 2012.

  1. The War Lords were from Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. Tom Jacobs was killed in the Vietnam War and was a helicopter pilot. Yours truly is still playing guitar in the church "Wire Choir" and kicking around the Pacific NW. Gary Jacobs on drums, Willy Vrba on bass. Real Fine Lady is the "A" side in my humble opinion. Thanks for the website! J Popelka

  2. Thanks for the info! Yes, Real Fine Lady is a really great tune! It's available on the Back From The Grave compilation CD series. This side is much harder to find. Rumor has it that the father of one of you guys was concerned about his kid being in a rock band. He supposedly drove 130 miles to spy on you, just to find you playing a gig at a Catholic high school. The other piece of information I left out was that this was recorded in the RCA studios in Chicago and issued on your own "Thor Records" label. There was another garage rock group called the Fourgathering from WIlmette, Illinois, who cut a single on Thor 6240/6241 with You're Mean To Me b/w Betty And Dupree. Did you guys know these guys?
